Privacy policy

Last updated 23 October 2026

The short version

Dinnerdom helps families plan dinners from the meals they actually eat. This policy explains what information the app collects, why, where it’s kept and the choices you have. Dinnerdom is an independent app run from Australia. In this policy, “we” and “us” means Dinnerdom.

Information you give us

Your account

Your email address or tester username, password and, if you choose, your name. If you sign in with ChatGPT, OpenAI shares your account ID, email address and name with us.

Your household

Your household name and members, their roles and names, and, if you add them, birthdays, photos, allergies, food dislikes, favourite meals and places to eat, portion preferences and dates people are away.

Meals and plans

Recipes, ingredients, instructions, recipe links, meal photos, serving sizes, cooking times, calorie information if you enter it, weekly plans, favourites, votes, meal history, leftovers, cooking progress and family occasions.

Shopping

Shopping lists, quantities, ticked items, retailer choices, basket reviews, pantry and freezer contents, purchases, prices, discounts, receipt totals and notes. If you use price imports, the town or postcode you set.

Linked calendars

The calendar name, provider and feed link you give us, and the event titles, dates and times we read from it. Dinnerdom supports Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft 365, Apple iCloud and Deputy. A private calendar link can give access to that calendar, so only link calendars you’re comfortable sharing with the app, and remove them when you no longer need them. Linked calendars belong to your own account within your household.

Forwarded emails and receipts

If you forward emails or receipts to your household’s Dinnerdom address, we receive the sender and recipient details, subject, message content and attachments. These can include personal details added by whoever wrote the email, so please only forward what you need.

Household connections and invitations

Linked households, invitation codes, the host’s name, dinner title, date, time, place and whether the invitation was accepted. These details are shared with the household you connect with.

Reviews and bug reports

Your name or account ID, rating, review, problem description, steps to reproduce it, device and browser details, app version and any screenshot you attach.

Information from using the app

Preferences and notifications

Your theme, feature settings, language, region, time zone, notification settings, which notifications you’ve read, and recent activity we use to time notifications well.

Usage during testing

While Dinnerdom is in testing, we record your account ID, session ID, display name (or your email if you haven’t set a name), visit start and latest activity times, and estimated active time, along with some counts of how often features are used. Only the app owner can see this activity. Other testers can’t see yours.

Activity recording is on by default. You can turn it off at any time in More > Settings > Privacy > Record my testing activity, and the setting applies to your account on all your devices. We store this choice with your account. Turning it off stops new activity being recorded but doesn’t delete earlier records. If you’d like those removed too, email us.

Technical information

Our server keeps some error logs. The services that host Dinnerdom and handle sign-in also process technical information about each request, such as your IP address and device or browser details.

We don’t use outside analytics, crash-reporting or advertising tools, and we don’t collect advertising IDs, contacts, text messages or call logs. Dinnerdom doesn’t process payments.

Stored on your phone

Dinnerdom keeps some things on your device so it works smoothly: sign-in cookies, preferences, unfinished drafts, changes waiting to save, cooking progress and timers, shared recipes waiting to import and testing-session details. On Android it also keeps a snapshot of your meal plan for widgets, plus your notification settings. Unfinished drafts expire after 30 days.

Microphone, camera and location

Microphone

Voice lets you plan meals, dictate recipes and hear cooking instructions. Dinnerdom uses your phone’s or browser’s own speech recognition and text-to-speech, and doesn’t keep audio recordings. Your device’s speech service may send audio to its provider’s servers to recognise what you say, under that provider’s own privacy policy. Anything you dictate into a recipe can be saved as a draft or recipe.

On Android, the optional hands-free mode sends the text of your recognised commands to our server, and can keep listening while your phone is locked until you turn it off. Ordinary voice features stop listening when you leave the app.

Camera, photos and files

Dinnerdom only uses photos and files you choose. Recipe and receipt scanning happens on your device, and those scanned images aren’t uploaded; the information you choose to save from them is. Meal photos, profile photos and bug report screenshots are uploaded and stored with your account.

Location (optional)

If you allow it, Dinnerdom uses your approximate location to find nearby towns, distances and places to eat. It only updates while the Eating Out page is open, isn’t used in the background, and we don’t keep a location history. The town you search is sent to venue-search services, and opening a nearby Google Maps link sends the town or rounded coordinates to Google. Saved places and price-import settings can keep a town or postcode.

How we use information

We use your information to run Dinnerdom: planning meals, building shopping lists, showing your calendar alongside your plan, reading forwarded receipts, connecting households, sending notifications, answering your questions and fixing and improving the app.

We don’t sell your information or use it for advertising. Dinnerdom shows retailer and venue offers, including promotions in emails you forward, but these aren’t based on tracking you.

Who we share it with

We share information only with the services that help run Dinnerdom, the services you choose to use through it, and the people you choose to share with.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Where it’s stored

Account sign-in is handled by Supabase in Sydney, Australia. Other services we use, including Cloudflare, OpenAI and Resend, may store or process information in other countries, including the United States. By using Dinnerdom, you understand your information may be handled outside Australia.

How long we keep it

Deleting your account and data

To delete your Dinnerdom account and its data, email info@dinnerdom.app from the email address linked to your account, with the subject “Delete my Dinnerdom account”. Let us know if you want only some data removed instead, such as photos or a linked calendar.

We’ll confirm once your account is deleted, within 30 days. You can also email us to see or correct the information we hold about you.

Children

Dinnerdom is designed for adults running a household and isn’t aimed at children. Parents and carers can add children as household members, including names, optional birthdays, photos, allergies and food preferences. Please only add what’s useful for planning meals.

Security

Dinnerdom uses encrypted connections and sign-in to protect your information. No online service can be perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and let us know straight away if you think your account has been misused.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we’ll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll let you know in the app.

For any privacy questions or requests, email info@dinnerdom.app. If you’re not happy with how we’ve handled a concern, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
